Campers learn about recognizing and regulating their emotions by using an “engine plate”

Crossroads hosted our inaugural Crossroads Connection TBRIĀ® Camp last month at First Baptist New Orleans. This camp was specially designed to meet the needs of kids who have experienced early childhood trauma. It was a week of connecting, empowering, and correcting through the lens of TBRIĀ®. Our goal was to give children an environment where they could learn and grow, expanding tools in their toolbox to connect with others, empower themselves, and develop healthy relationships.

Camp also provided their parents some refreshing time ā€œoffā€ where they knew their kids would be in a safe place that understood their needs. Back at home, our campers are already demonstrating growth in critical life skills like giving and receiving care.

We are so thankful for our amazing team of camp volunteers ā€“ TBRIĀ® Practitioners, GenSend college students, and local counseling students ā€“ as well as First Baptist New Orleans for generously providing building space; they made this 1st year a HUGE success!

“K* learned so much and loved it so much. She didnā€™t want camp to end. I was complaining about my back hurting and she asked if she could put a bandaid on it! She also started using the (TBRIĀ®) language ‘Iā€™m in the blueā€¦are you in the red?’ā€

“A* had a blast at Crossroadsā€™ TBRIĀ® camp. His favorite part of the camp was ā€˜Crash and Bumpā€™ and he loved his buddy, Mr. Jake. He spent the week reminding me that we have three rules in our home ā€“ we stick together, we have no hurts, and we have fun!”

Crossroads NOLA’s mission is to connect children in foster care to the families, individuals, and opportunities they need to thrive. We recruit new foster families from local churches, develop them into competent caregivers for kids from hard places through training in TBRIĀ®, and support them through the ups and downs of their journey as foster parents. Join the Home Team and support this life-changing work all year long!
