Making Memories at TBRI® Summer Camp

Shannon EscarraFoster Family, Support Families, TBRI® Works

This summer, 30 kids participated in our 3rd annual Crossroads Connection Camp, our biggest trauma-informed summer camp yet! Each camper (ages 4-15) was paired 1:1 with a camp “buddy” to support them throughout the week. Parents gathered daily for a “Lunch and Learn” to collaborate around TBRI® techniques from camp to implement at home. Our teen-specific group provided opportunities for kids of all backgrounds (biological, adopted, and in care) to process aspects of their story. Crossroads’ staff and volunteers had the great joy of watching kids grow in connection, self-regulation, and felt safety as the week progressed. One big “win” from camp is the emergence of Crossroads’ Teen Group that will meet monthly. Six kids joined us for the kick off meeting and 8 teens have already registered for the next one!

Crossroads’ mission is to connect children in foster care to the families, individuals, and opportunities they need to thrive. We recruit new foster families from local churches, develop them into competent caregivers for kids from hard places through training in TBRI®, and support them through the ups and downs of their journey as foster parents. Join the Home Team and support this life-changing work all year long!
